I’ve been asked a few times about my illustration process. This is my attempt to record the first stage, where I go out to look for views and catch details first-hand.

I spent the morning sketching at Nansidwell and Bream Cove, just near where I live. It was a cold, grey January day, but still lots of beautiful sights to see.

To me, sketching outdoors is all about seeing things for myself and taking the time to really look at the landscape. My attention is entirely focused on the surroundings and the present moment, so I find it very meditative.

I’ve tried to capture how I sketch and the experience in general. It’s my first attempt at a longer video but hopefully I’ll get better at it, with more practice.
